GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) – Grand Prairie police responded to a stabbing call near the 300 block of Skyline Road on Wednesday night.
When officers arrived on scene they found 41-year-old suspect Pedro Rangel, acting very strangely and irrational. When officers tried to talk to him, he became confrontational and barricaded himself in his apartment.
Because of Rangel’s strange behavior, police were forced to call in a SWAT team.
After attempts to get Rangel to come out of his apartment were unsuccessful, Rangel surprised police when he jumped off of the second story balcony. Police were then able to apprehend him and take him into custody.
The victim was taken to the hospital and was last reported to be in stable condition. At this time the victim’s information is not being released. Rangel was also transported to the hospital for injuries sustained in the fall.
Police say there is no known connection between the two men, other than that they live in the same apartment complex.
The investigation is still ongoing to try and determine what led the suspect to assault the victim, and to act in a suicidal manner.
